We suggest you plan on spending about five days. You may prefer to cut that down to four or even three days, knowing that you will need to come more than once in order to find and acquire a second home. Or you can stay a full week and use three or more days to initiate the search and take advantage of our special holiday-home-buyer holiday, keeping the balance of the time to explore the area or just relax.
what is included
The package provides three half-day sessions with Richard:
- a presentation and discussion to inform you about the main features of the local house market
- two half days out travelling around sections of the local area to see a range of property types, and some currently available houses
- introductions to two local agents with suitable properties on their books.

The topics covered should include:
- what is different in the housing market in this area of Italy
- what types of property are to be found
- what is different about the procedure here
- an overview of the different legal components
- what are the likely costs
- how to arrive at a realistic brief and what pitfalls to avoid
- an introduction to the geography of the Garfagnana and Media Valle to help you concentrate your search most effectively
the trips
The route to be studied and the selection of properties to see will be agreed once your requirements and interests are known, and will obviously vary with changing availability of properties for sale.
your guide
Richard is an English architect with a passion for the Garfagnana. He has a long career in various aspects of housing in several countries. He lives in an old mill near Coreglia Antelminelli that he is slowly restoring and has also himself purchased another village property in Garfagnana. His professional knowledge and personal experience will be available to you exclusively throughout the three half-days.
the cost
The Introduction to Home-buying in Garfagnana will add around €340 to the cost of staying at “Sweet Sixteen”. Ask for a total price for your particular period. Please if possible give some brief details of your likely requirements
