a little about the house and its history

We do not yet have a good picture of the history of Tereglio and of number 16 – we hope to be in a position to add more details to this page soon.

We have been told one interesting theory relating to the house. The passageway that slopes down under the house to give access to the our cantina (basement storage space) and that of our neighbours is an unusual feature. It is thought that it was once an entrance gateway into the village. There was an old track which crossed the valley and then climbed over the opposite hill to lead on to Lucignana, the next village. This may have arrived up the hill to arrive at the old gateway. As you can see from the photo (left) the hill is steep at this point, so there may be no truth in the theory. We plan to investigate...
